Abbi DeLessio relocated, along with her family, to Hong Kong in 2004 and was elected to the HKIS Board of Managers in April 2008 and has served as the Chair of the Board since January 2011. Prior to serving as the Board Chair, Abbi served as the Vice-Chair of the Board, the Chair of the Board’s Advancement Committee and the Chair of the 2010 Head of School Search Committee. Abbi has served with four Heads of School, developing immediate and long-term goals and expectations for the Board of Managers and for the school, designed to support and advance the school’s Mission, Vision and Student Learning Results. Prior to serving on the Board of Managers, Abbi served as a Co-chair for the HKIS Annual Fund Drive, directing a campaign that raised over HKD 10 million, what was then a record level of donations.
Mrs. DeLessio has extensive non-profit volunteer and governance experience in addition to her service to HKIS. Abbi currently serves on The American Chamber of Commerce’s (AmCham) Education Affairs Group (EAG), an invitation only committee focused on supporting efforts to ensure Hong Kong achieves and maintains the highest quality education system offering the highest standards of instruction, both of which are critical to the long-term success and competitiveness of Hong Kong and she is also a co-chair of AmCham’s Education Committee, which provides operational and tactical support for the EAG’s strategic initiatives as well as opportunities for membership engagement. Abbi has also served on the Membership and General Manager Search Committees for The American Club and currently serves on the Club’s Nominating Committee. Additionally Abbi was, from January 2006 through January 2010, the full-time Development Director of The Watchdog Early Learning Centre, a pre-school centre for children with special educational needs and has provided volunteer leadership for other organizations in Hong Kong including Growing Together, a group that advocated for the educational rights of individuals with special educational needs.
Abbi and her husband Tim have two daughters: Alli, age 20, a sophomore at The George Washington University in Washington, DC and Maggie, age 16, a junior at Hong Kong International School.
