Trade & Investment acts as a focal point for members’ concerns regarding Hong Kong and regional trade and investment issues. The committee hosts programs that inform the membership and stimulate thoughtful action regarding trade, investment and competitiveness issues. It also acts as a clearing house and active action agent for trade and investment issues that are of common concern to more than one of the Chamber’s sector specific committees.

The committee sets up the Shadow Economy Subcommittee (SESC) to address serious illicit trade issues through a coalition of stakeholders from businesses, experts, NGOs, media and law enforcement agencies. SESC has 3 work streams:

  • Human Trafficking and Anti-Money Laundering
  • Secure, Efficient and Transparent Supply Chain
  • Intellectual Property Rights Protection & Illicit Trade

The key for SESC to be successful is to draw upon knowledge and experience of our stakeholders to build best practices and provide practical solutions for each of the work streams. Advocacy is of critical importance as well to bring about long-term legislative and regulatory changes. The SESC leaders include:

  • Chair: Ming Lai Cheung, Philip Morris International
  • Vice Chairs: Michael Wong, Atom International; Amita Haylock, Mayer Brown JSM; Jeremy Birch, Herbert Smith Freehills
