Submission to the U.S. President on Territorial Taxation

Representing overseas American businesses and employees based in Hong Kong, AmCham sent a letter to President Trump on November 3, 2017 – calling for the U.S. to shift to a system of territorial taxation for corporations and individuals to boost U.S. competitiveness in doing business overseas. Through our ongoing dialogue with key stakeholders from Washington, this issue has been raised and AmCham hopes that it will be addressed in the upcoming tax reform by President Trump.

AmCham Calls for Collaborative and Goal Driven Plan for Hong Kong Smart City

AmCham submits that HKSAR Government should adopt a collaborative mindset and approach to devise and implement Smart City initiatives. To ensure comprehensive planning and implementation, it is necessary for the Administration to set up a high-level authority to coordinate and formulate integrated policies. The submission also outlined specific best practices, which have already been proven effective by other cities, that are crucial to the success of a Smart City.

Submission in response to the consultation on the Application for a Block Exemption Order under Section 15 of the Competition Ordinance (Cap. 619) by the Hong Kong Liner Shipping Association (HKLSA)

In the interest of enhancing economic efficiency, improving port competition, and fair consumer benefits, AmCham recommends a Block Exemption Order for VSAs with respect to the guidelines of the Competition Ordinance.

Submission on Electronic Road Pricing Pilot Scheme in Central and its adjacent areas

AmCham supports the ERP Pilot Scheme to address various transportation issues; however, a large priority in the planning and execution of a solution rests upon the development of Hong Kong as a “smart city”. Additionally, AmCham advocates for a “Pedestrian First, Mass Transport Second, Private Cars Last” strategy, which corresponds appropriately to Hong Kong’s specific conditions.
