Former President Tara Joseph's Farewell Message

Tara

Thank you for the honor and pleasure of serving as AmCham HK President

Dear AmCham Members and Friends,

After 5 years at the helm of AmCham, and 20 years in Hong Kong, it’s time to say goodbye as I settle back in the US and take on a new job in California.

It has been an honor and great pleasure serving as AmCham President. I would like to say thank you to a wonderful community of devoted and talented people. The last few years have been both exhilarating and volatile– but most of all working at AmCham has been meaningful and fun! I will take away a lot of lessons learned and new friendships.

I’m also happy to say despite the challenges of the last few years, I am leaving with an overall increase in membership numbers. The Chamber is also on a sound financial footing thanks to the sale of our outdated property in Bank of America Tower and the purchase of a new Community Hub in the heart of Central. To stay in contact with a growing number of former Hong Kong residents who have moved back to the US, I am kick starting a Hong Kong Alumni Network to keep us all connected and thriving.

When I joined AmCham we barely had a tech committee, nor were we digitized. Now we have a collaborative team, an updated digital working system, data and a fabulous improvement in our social media. We have a strong Future of Work committee with increased diversity and collaboration across our committees and members. We have built a strong Future Leaders program to ensure we build a pipeline of talent for the future.

None of this would have happened without the engagement of our active Board Members, Committee Leaders and staff. Thank you! Your resilience in the challenging times of Covid -19 has been remarkable.

If I could jump on my soapbox for one moment, I really hope that the Chamber does not lose its core values of rule of law, free flow of data and information and transparency and good governance as Hong Kong settles into a new normal. The Chamber has operated for over 50 years with an emphasis on these values and that keep our community strong.

Please do keep in touch. I am contactable on LinkedIn. I hope to stay active in Amcham, so you may well see me at the Chamber!

With best wishes and warmest of regards,

Tara
