AmCham Launches Onward Hong Kong Series to Look at the Next 25 Years of the HKSAR
Hong Kong – August 11, 2022 – In September, the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AmCham) launches its new signature series Onward Hong Kong. As the city celebrates the 25th anniversary of the HKSAR’s establishment, it becomes even more crucial that we look ahead to what the next 25 years will hold.
Jointly presented by AmCham and Meta, Onward Hong Kong is a ten-month program series running from September 2022 to June 2023 to explore the key challenges and opportunities that remain for Hong Kong. What is the future status of Hong Kong as an international financial centre? How will the city develop its next generation of leaders? What can we anticipate as Hong Kong grows into a smart, sustainable city? This series will bring together prominent thought leaders, business executives, government officials and experts to examine these questions as we look into the future of Asia’s World City.
“AmCham has played a crucial role in advocating for the business community throughout Hong Kong’s history,” said AmCham Chairman, Joseph Armas. “As Hong Kong transitions and continues to evolve, AmCham will continue to facilitate discourse on prevalent issues such as talent, data freedom, complex US-China relations, and other geopolitical factors. In particular, with the general pessimism reflected in our 2022 Business Sentiment Survey, we believe it is imperative to address concerns, but also renew optimism with emerging opportunities for this prosperous and dynamic city,” Armas added.
“Hong Kong is our home in the Greater China region. Meta, which helps to connect many people and businesses in Hong Kong and beyond, is honored to partner with AmCham to sponsor the new Onward Hong Kong series and bring together those who care deeply about the future of Hong Kong to share their insight and advice to make Hong Kong an even better home for tomorrow. The new thought leadership series also demonstrates Meta’s long-term commitment to Hong Kong’s social and economic development,” said George Chen, Managing Director for Public Policy at Meta, who also sits on the board of AmCham.
