Strengthening Commitment: David Butts Outlines Vision for 2025 as AmCham’s New Chairman

Hong Kong – January 14, 2025 –The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AmCham)’s new Chairman David Butts delivered his inaugural remarks on Tuesday, outlining a bold vision for the year ahead.  

In his remarks, Butts emphasized that the priorities of the Chamber for 2025 will be continuing to enhance Hong Kong’s status as an international business center amid a rapidly changing world. 

With 30 years of experience in Hong Kong and a successful career at Techtronic Industries Co. Ltd (TTI), Butts emphasized the importance of the relationship between business and government, particularly during uncertain times. “Just as we did from day one, AmCham [we] remain dedicated to bridging the needs of the business community and government to ensure a thriving and prosperous Hong Kong,” stated Butts. 

With the inauguration of the new U.S. Administration coming up, Butts added that “it is during changing times like these that opportunities appear, allowing a business association like AmCham to prove its worth.” 

As AmCham marks its 55th anniversary, Butts highlighted key priorities for the year including:  

  • Strengthening engagement with the senior management of leading American, Hong Kong and multinational businesses 

  • Accelerate the disciplined forging of strong and honest relationships with HKSAR, China, and US Governments 

  • Guiding all our members through the business landscape in Hong Kong and the US 

  • Strengthening services and thought leadership with AmCham’s stakeholders 

  • Expanding AmCham programs for business leaders 

David Butts is President (Asia Pacific) and Group Executive Vice President for TTI. He is a graduate of Georgetown University earning a Master of Business Administration, concentrating on International Business. Prior to attending Georgetown, he earned a Master of Engineering and Bachelor of Engineering in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering at Cornell University. He has held a progression of leadership roles working for TTI, Emerson Electric and Bosch across geographies of North America, Europe and Asia Pacific. He is a board member of a joint venture between TTI and a large German multinational.  

This year’s inaugural was attended by over 100 Chamber members, notable figures and business leaders gathered at The Clipper, the American Club. A special acknowledgment to The Asia Group and Techtronic Industries for their support of this event.
